Public Service Announcement Nevada’s Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is rebranding as Nevada 988. There’s a new website, and a forthcoming campaign to increase awareness about the service. According to a press release, less than 20% of Nevadans are currently aware of 988. Spread the word. Help is out there.
IN NEVADA CURRENT
Economic situationship Nevada has had one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation since the covid pandemic. It has also been leading the state in job growth, apparently for over a year now. So why won’t all those unemployed people just go snag one of the new jobs to lower the unemployment rate? (I bet the governor would love that!) Apparently it’s not that simple. State economist on persistently high unemployment rate: It’s complicated
The DETR economist’s presentation was given to the Economic Forum, the panel that sets the state budget by forecasting state revenue each biennium. The panel got what could be described as an encouraging update a week or two ago. Pew Charitable Trusts attributes much of that disparity to white families saving more for retirement, and they point to automatic retirement programs as one way to reverse the trend. Racial wealth gap widens as many workers of color lack retirement savings
PSA #2: Nevada is among the states that has created an automatic IRA account. It’s called NEST and it launched last summer.

And a certain segment of Nevadans is extra obsessed with the topic of California and gas prices. So, here’s an interesting look from Grist at the oil company at the center of the California governor’s race.
So there is a limit?! Our States Newsroom DC bureau reports the latest on the $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund that has proven a step too far. Trump reportedly retreating from federally financed ‘slush fund’ for friends and followers
