Leftenant gube. In case you hadn’t noticed — which would be entirely understandable — Nevada has a lieutenant governor. Judging from the current occupant’s performance (see below), the sole responsibility of the job is to demonize trans people. In prior years, however, the position has been viewed by Democrats as a means of preventing a Republican governor from running for the U.S. Senate. So … home means Nevada or whatever.
IN NEVADA CURRENT
Foster fix. Nevada’s failure to keep track of children placed into informal foster living arrangements with relatives or family friends is contributing to the exploitation and trafficking of youth, says a former state senator, Patricia Farley-Moore, who is asking the Nevada Legislature to pass legislation that would require the state to count every child it separates from parents. Dana Gentry reports: NV’s cheap and easy foster care fix paves way to trafficking, life of crime, says former lawmaker
Campaign cognitive dissonance. “But might we all take a moment to process that what we have here is Joe Lombardo, a defender of and apologist for Donald Trump, urging people to be outraged over the prospect of a convicted criminal getting a pardon?” My column: Area Trump apologists lecture community on ‘character’
As if to underscore the pointlessness of the position, Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony’s newly created Task Force to Protect Women’s Sports has been at the center of his campaign for reelection. His only campaign ad touts his efforts to ban transgender athletes from women’s sports during his first term. Jeniffer Solis reports: Outgoing assemblymember takes on lieutenant governor
Henderson City Councilwoman Carrie Cox, who among a flurry of scandals is facing a criminal investigation, is at risk of being unseated this November by Jennifer Atlas, a nonprofit government affairs director. Michael Lyle reports: Henderson councilwoman faces election challenge amid ongoing felony case
Today’s judge race story finds a former public defender who is now on the bench hoping to retain her seat. Busy Dana reports: Prosecutor seeks to oust judge from Clark County District Court
Good Luck
