NV lawmakers urged to rein in DHS/ICE

No, Lombardo won't save us. The other day while attempting to rationalize endorsing a Republican governor who bows before Trump on command, David Goldwater, the chair of "Democrats for Lombardo" (aka lobbyists for Lombardo), regurgitated the inane drivel that Nevada's Republican governor has some influence over, or is at least of some interest to, Trump. So Joe Lombardo, by virtue of his existence, is protecting Nevada from the mayhem Trump's xenophobia-centered anti-immigrant policies have inflicted elsewhere, Goldwater suggested.

First, as the folks (including a federal judge in Nevada) quoted and referenced in Michael Lyle's story below have attested, Joe Lombardo has not in fact prevented DHS/ICE from flaunting the law in Nevada, breaking up families, and endangering the safety of Lombardo's constituents. If Lombardo is supposed to be protecting Nevadans from Trump's malicious and often illegal detention and deportation tactics, then as with his gas tax holiday and his film tax credit and so much of the rest of his agenda (such as it is), Lombardo has failed.

Second, the assumption that Lombardo might have some sway over Trump is absurd because it assumes Trump is a rational actor. Trump's not a rational actor. He's a narcissistic dotard and the most notoriously disloyal government official on the planet.

Third, if merely being a politically vulnerable Republican in high office — and thus someone Trump might want to protect — were enough to make Trump rein in the blundering yet malicious and sometimes deadly actions of his white nationalist stormtroopers, who forgot to tell Trump about Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins? (See that story below, too.)

And finally (as I've written before), even if Lombardo was saving Nevada from Trump — which he's not — "vote for Lombardo or the state gets it" is a morally and intellectually bankrupt excuse for voting for somebody. It's an election, not a stick up.

You can't stop them, you can only hope to contain them... Assemblywoman (for now) Sandra Jauregui is asking the legislative auditor to investigate the state agency that regulates security guards “following serious allegations that the Board has been violating Nevada law and giving felons access to firearms and PI (private investigator) licenses.” Dana Gentry reports: Jauregui seeks audit to learn if state agency is licensing felons to carry firearms

Serious questions: If a lieutenant governor wanted to see something like this investigated, how would they go about it, who would they ask, and would anybody care?

Man killed by ICE in Maine wasn’t the target of warrant. Granted, Susan Collins is not Trump’s favorite Republican senator. But she’s the nominee in Maine, which Trump lost by 7 points in 2024. So seriously, do Markwayne, Nosferatu Miller, and Trump himself for that matter all think Collins is safe? Or do they just not care about ... anybody? Via the Maine Morning Star.
