IN NEVADA CURRENT

Another day, another data center story Everything these days is somehow tied to data centers, data centers, and more data centers. Today, reporter Data Gentry (hah!) takes a look at the proposed expansion of a natural gas pipeline that would bring service to TRIC just in time for the planned launch of three data centers. The governor appears all about it, renewable energy goals be damned. Lombardo backs natural gas pipeline expansion for data centers

Like I said… Reno City Council earlier this week extended a 30-day moratorium on data centers by more than a year. One council member during the veeeeeery long meeting said some people think the moratorium effort is politically driven, pointing to Reno’s crowded mayoral primary, which features two sitting council members and seven other candidates. Reporter Jeniffer Solid explains more: Reno City Council extends data center moratorium, promises effort is not political

My take: Interest in — and opposition to — data centers has been growing this year, so a city that has seen numerous data center applications taking action against them isn’t surprising. But that doesn’t mean the effort isn’t also driven by political motivations. Both things can be true at the same time.

Treading drought, trading water Jenifer Solis also reports that Lake Mead could soon benefit from the nation’s largest desalination plant thanks to an agreement that would allow the Colorado River Basin’s drought-challenged lower states to swap their supplies of water. Nevada signs water sharing agreement with Arizona, California

The Moderate Machine Editor Hugh Jackson has some thoughts on the Reid Machine and their “decidedly, calculatedly, blazingly centrist” approach. His latest column: Maybe NV’s primary should be first — but not for reasons NV Democratic leaders cite

FYI: Hugh’s been traveling, which is why I’ve been filling sending out your beloved Daily Current. He will return next week.

This is the way
