A roundup of the latest from the Nevada Current,

Happy Saturday. In another indication of the evolving — or eroding — relationship between Israel and congressional Democrats, on Wednesday 40 U.S. senators voted for a Bernie Sanders resolution to block a sale of bombs and bulldozers to Israel.

The previous Sanders resolution to block arms sales to Israel, which came last July, won support from just 27 Senate Democrats. In April 2025, a similar resolution got only 15 Democratic votes.

“It means that Netanyahu really screwed up the politics of the Middle East, and he is destroying the bipartisan nature in terms of support for Israel,” said Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), who previously opposed such efforts but flipped to “yes” on Wednesday. “Certainly a lot of us aren’t going to support offensive actions in a war that we don’t support,” Gallego added.

Only seven Democratic U.S. senators adhered to the legacy congressional position of reflexive support for Israel. Nevada Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen were among the seven.

Of the 22 states where both U.S. senators are Democrats, the pair from Nevada are the most consistently Republican-adjacent. There’s nothing provocative or novel about that observation, by the way. They themselves brag about it.
