A roundup of the latest from the Nevada Current,
presented with perspective and opinion.

They psyched me out. Imagine my disappointment when I clicked on the “Most Read” story on the Las Vegas Review-Journal website this morning — ”Station Casinos opens new $750M casino” — only to discover it’s in California. Why does the RJ toy with me so cruelly?  Because c’mon man, if there’s one thing missing in Las Vegas, it’s another Station Casino property.

Oh well, at least it’s Friday.

IN NEVADA CURRENT

They’re here, they’re there, they’re every-f--- ing where! Microplastics! “It’s kind of disrupting this narrative of pristineness,” says the environmental toxicologist leading the research. “I hope it brings awareness to the circularity and widespreadness of pollution. There’s this boomerang effect, and it’s important we recognize that.” This is a fascinating but disturbing story, reported by Jeniffer Solis: Microplastics found in freshly fallen snow in Sierra Nevada

Yay, April! This is a brief item and does not begin to convey the confidence I have in April’s capability to run and improve the Current. In case you didn’t see this on the Current website yesterday: Editor’s note: I’m retiring. April’s going to take over

Note: Careful readers of that item will discern that you’re stuck with me for (checks calendar) another three(!?) weeks. Over that period will I be holding forth on sweeping questions and grand matters of interest to the engaged public, like some pompous self-styled éminence grise? Probably. But we’ll see.

Via Stateline:

‘Medically frail’ Medicaid enrollees won’t have to prove their inability to work to keep coverage. The federal judge’s decision grants a partial victory to Nevada and the other 24 states that sued the Trump administration in June.

Good Luck
