Making Lombardo be mean to seniors again.

Remember last month when Trump sicced his wretched Dept. of Homeland Security on Nevada's free and fair election? Ooh, Nevada, you have 16,000 noncitizens who are registered to vote, a stern DHS  Secretary Markwayne Mullin said, his Markwayne finger wagging at Nevada with disapproval.

To which Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar, responding far too politely and measuredly, in my view, dismissed Markwayne's balderdash as “wildly speculative at best” and noted that DHS “hasn’t shared anything that backs it up.”

Well. From the New York Times yesterday...

A month after the Trump administration declared without evidence that thousands of noncitizens had illegally registered to vote in Nevada, officials with the Department of Homeland Security were unable to substantiate the claim.

The administration claimed to have identified 278,000 noncitizens registered to vote in four states, including an exact number of 15,903 in Nevada. But during a meeting last week with state election administrators, Homeland Security officials said they had identified just 185 potential noncitizens in the state so far, according to emails as well as recordings of the meeting obtained by The New York Times.

Wait ... what? Not only Trump, but also the great Markwayne, just cold throwing numbers around publicly that are bogus, in a blatant and vile attempt to undermine trust in election officials and democracy itself?

Must be a day that ends with a y.

IN NEVADA CURRENT

The rent is too damned high, senior edition. Gov. Joe Lombardo has twice vetoed bills — one in 2023 and another last year — that would have capped the amount of rent increases landlords can charge seniors. To clarify, the bills would not have frozen rents, or prohibited landlords from raising the rent. They just would have limited the size of rent increase that was allowable over specific time periods. Alas, Lombardo declared such tenant protections a sin against holy sacred market forces amen (except Lombardo phrased it differently). A group of lawmakers this week said they'll bring up a new version of the bill when the Legislature meets early next year. Note: Maybe Lombardo will still be governor when the Legislature meets next year. If so, presumably he'd veto capping the size of rent increases on seniors yet again, as pretty much the whole point, purpose, and greatest achievement of his tenure as governor is getting s**t vetoed.

Experts skewer new Trump administration analysis claiming 24,000 noncitizens voted in 2020. This is about a completely different and newer Trump administration lie than the one discussed in the aforementioned New York Times story. Part of this story is about how methodologically silly and evidence-free the regime's report is. But another important part consists of people expressing disgust and sorrow to see Trump and his minions bastardize, sully, and corrupt the national data and research treasure that is the U.S. Census Bureau by having some Trump toady vomit up a nonsense report and slap the the Census Bureau's name on it.
