Trump's gerrymandering scheme to keep his pet Republicans in control of the U.S. House hit another roadblock in Virginia last night. Florida gerrymandering is yet to come, but even if that’s as Trumpy as expected, the Democrats are well-positioned to win the House.
So here's a question: If Trump declares an emergency — perhaps citing his idiotic Iran war that's going so "swimmingly" — and cancels the midterms so Republicans can keep the House, does that mean Nevada Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, who announced his retirement, would have to stay in Congress? Or could Amodei just resign, and Gov. Joe Lombardo could appoint a Republican to fill what would be an extended term? That would be good news for James Settelmeyer😀. But bad news for David Flippo☹️.
On the other hand, if the elections go forward normally and Republicans lose the House, and even the Senate too, don't kid yourself: Everything will still remain preposterous until 2029 at the earliest.
IN NEVADA CURRENT
The city of entertainment: The plaintiff was Dennis Rodman's agent back in the day. His newest attorney is that Republican dude who dropped out of the Minnesota race for governor because he didn't want to be in a party whose president launched an armed assault on Minneapolis. And no, the former agent and his lawyer are not settling with MGM. Dana Gentry reports: No deal reached between MGM and gambler who alleges he was drugged, says attorney
The primary will decide the seat, part 1: This Republican guy was appointed to the Nevada legislature just prior to the special session in November to ... do what Lombardo said, presumably. So accordingly he voted for the Hollywood/Howard Hughes Handout. Whoopsies, that's a disqualifier, contends his Republican opponent. No Democrat filed in this race so the lucky winner of the primary gets to spend at least four months in Carson City next year, yay. Michael Lyle reports: Appointed for the special session, Republican assemblymember faces primary challenge to keep the job
The primary will decide the seat, part 2: It's the flip side — no Republican filed in this race. The film tax credit thing is a thing in some legislative races. But not this one — the incumbent voted for it, and the challenger supports it (and also praises the incumbent, which is nice). Matthew Mondschein reports: Culinary Union incumbent challenged by ‘jack of all trades’ in Democratic Assembly primary
How magnanimous. In case you forgot, or perhaps never noticed in the first place, the charlatan Trump put in charge of federal health care financing is Dr. Oz, so this is bound to go ... swimmingly? In Medicaid fraud crackdown, feds now looking to audit all 50 states
Good Luck
