Ford distances himself from Lombardo on data centers

Ford isn’t promising to end tax breaks for data centers, which have cost the state hundreds of millions over the last four fiscal years. But he's saying he'll pause the giveaways while analyzing the tax break program. And he is promising to devise means to shield the public from higher power costs and stiffen requirements vis-a-vis other concerns, including water usage and public participation in the approval process. Poor widdle lawmakers. Ooh, that mean Howard Watts! How dare he? As chair of a legislative committee he gave that committee a chance to ask legislative counsel to draft a bill that would stick a stake in NV Energy's repulsive "daily demand charge" that is A) so onerous no other state even allows such a charge, and B) despised by virtually everyone. Alas, all the other legislators said "oh my stars and garters merely asking for a bill to be written on such a divisive and high-profile issue is far too decisive and direct an action for a group so dedicated to timidity as we!" Hmm, the previous item seems to be part of a theme... Legislators formed a group of folks to examine potential ways to pay for something that metro Reno and metro Las Vegas do not have but glaringly need: public rail mass transit. (And no, the asinine monorail doesn't count. Gah.) And so pressed to have a make a consequential contribution to that most sensitive of questions — how to pay for it — the committee identified many, many ways that other states fund their transit systems. And then, naturally, the group recommended ... none of them, lest they unsettle someone/anyone.
