A roundup of the latest from the Nevada Current,
presented with perspective and opinion.

Happy Saturday. David Flippo came in third in a Nevada State Assembly Republican primary in 2022. In 2024 he finished second in the Republican primary in Nevada’s 4th congressional district. He’s moving up!

This year Flippo initially filed to run in CD4 again. But when Rep. Mark Amodei announced his retirement in Nevada’s 2nd congressional district, Flippo flipped, and now he’s running in the Republican primary in CD2.

At the top of his campaign website, Flippo prominently labels himself a “Trump Republican.” He boasts endorsements from a veritable cornucopia of lower-shelf MAGA washouts, including Matt Gaetz, Joe Arpaio, Greg Bovino, and Wayne Allyn Root. In other words, whatever chance Democrats have to do something they’ve never done before — win the historically safe Republican seat in CD2 — that chance will be greatly enhanced if the Republican nominee is Flippo.

Both Amodei and Gov. Joe Lombardo endorsed somebody else, former state legislator James Settelmeyer. Lombardo likes people to think he’s a Trump whisperer, so if Trump endorses Flippo instead of Settelmeyer that’d be entertaining.

Meanwhile — and this actually is the thing that prompted me to bring him up this morning — on the “Issues” page of his website, under a ”Strengthen our military” tab, self-styled “Trump Republican” David Flippo says he will:

“Strengthen global alliances to collectively address international security threats.”

Damn. Who’s going to tell him?
